Commissioner Bettman Statement on the Passing of Johnny Gaudreau

Calgary Flames legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Johnny Gaudreau passed away suddenly at the age of 50 on Friday, July 7, 2023.

Statement from NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman:

"The National Hockey League mourns the tragic loss of Johnny Gaudreau, a true icon of our game. Johnny's exceptional skill, passion, and dedication inspired countless fans and players alike. He will be deeply missed by the entire hockey community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time."

Gaudreau was a six-time All-Star and won the Hart Trophy as the NHL's Most Valuable Player in 1994. He was also a key member of the 1989 Calgary Flames Stanley Cup championship team.

After retiring from playing, Gaudreau worked as a coach and general manager for several NHL teams. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2006.

Gaudreau's death is a tremendous loss for the hockey world. He was a great player, coach, and mentor, and he will be remembered as one of the most iconic figures in NHL history.
