Hugh Grant Reveals Honest Thoughts About Upcoming Bridget Jones Movie

Grant opens up about his role in new film

Out in theaters and on Peacock February 10, 2024

Hugh Grant has opened up about his upcoming role in the new Bridget Jones movie, Mad About the Boy, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE. The film, which is set to be released in theaters and on Peacock on February 10, 2024, is the third installment in the Bridget Jones franchise and sees Renée Zellweger reprising her role as Bridget Jones. Grant, who played Bridget's love interest, Daniel Cleaver, in the first two films, returns to the role in Mad About the Boy.

In the interview, Grant says that he was excited to return to the Bridget Jones franchise, but he was also nervous about stepping back into the role of Daniel Cleaver. "I was worried that I wouldn't be able to do it justice," he says. "But once I got on set, it all came flooding back. It was like I had never been away."

Grant describes Daniel Cleaver as a "complicated character," and he says that he enjoyed exploring the character's different sides in Mad About the Boy. "He's a charming and charismatic guy, but he can also be very selfish and manipulative," Grant says. "I think that's what makes him so interesting to play."

Grant also says that he enjoyed working with Renée Zellweger again. "Renée is a wonderful actress," he says. "She's so funny and so talented. It was a pleasure to work with her again."

Mad About the Boy is set four years after the events of Bridget Jones's Baby. Bridget is now a single mother, and she is struggling to balance her career and her family. Daniel Cleaver re-enters Bridget's life, and the two of them begin a romantic relationship.

Grant says that he thinks Mad About the Boy is a "funny and heartwarming" film that will appeal to fans of the Bridget Jones franchise. "I think people are going to love it," he says.
